Cummins Coach Care — Houston, Texas
Temps: 82F (28C) / 62F (17C)
Monday … Mui had his three-month check-up with his cardiologist … first an echo … then an in-person consult to review the cardiac rehab results. We got the two thumbs up from Dr Reyes … no changes to the meds. Next check-up scheduled for January … in conjunction with Mui’s annual physical.
We actually had the doctor’s blessing to travel back in February. But Mui wanted to do a couple of months of the recommended cardiac rehab before we got on the road. I agreed that was smart and we extended our Houston stay through his scheduled 3-month check-up. Thus, the thumbs up was expected. Nonetheless, it’s good to have Mui’s recovery confirmed before getting on the road for a couple of months.
Tuesday … prep day to get the Phaeton and the toad road-ready. It was a very windy day, with some strong gusts in the 28 mph (45 kph) range. But at least the sun was shining, mitigating the wind-chill. And there was no wet stuff falling from the sky to hinder us from doing our chores.
Mui celebrates the good news from Dr Reyes with a healthy salad topped with grilled salmon.
Wednesday — today, that is — our wheels rolled. Not far … just 23 miles (37 km) to Cummins Coach Care for the Phaeton’s annual service appointment. No need to rush off early since we still had one-night left on our pre-paid monthly stay. We took it easy in the morning. Breakfast, followed by our daily 3-mile+ (5 km) walk at Tom Bass Regional Park, kick started the day. Then a few chores and a light lunch before we began to break camp.
A short and easy drive brings us to Cummins Coach Care.
Around 1:15p, we were out of our site. Before leaving Advanced, we drove over to the campground propane station to top off our on-board bottle. Normally, Mui would do this in the morning when it is cooler — thus more ideal for a fill-up — but we did not want to have to pull out early to do so. After all, it’s not like our destination for tonight offered any exciting amenities!
As luck would have it, someone was filling up two oversized propane bottles, so we had a bit of a wait. By the time we took our turn, paid for our propane purchase and our final electric bill, hooked up the CR-V and went through the toad hook-up checklist, it was 2:00p. Traffic cooperated, however, so we made short work of the drive to Cummins.
We’ve been coming here for annual service since 2014.
We’re checked in for tomorrow’s appointment. Mui submitted his maintenance checklist so the service manager can review it before tomorrow’s 8:30a appointment. Now we’re nestled in amongst a bunch of RVs here for service. Oddly, most are Tiffins, so we’re in good company. We’re the only ones overnighting in our rig, however. We have all the comforts we need for a short stay … a full freshwater tank and 50A power so that we can run the A/Cs overnight if things don’t cool down some by bedtime.
Pretty Tiffins all in a row welcome our Phaeton to their ranks.
The plan for tomorrow is to get out of here around 2:00p and head to San Antonio for the weekend. If we are delayed for some reason, we have a Plan B. And if that doesn’t work, Plan C is waiting in the wings in case we need it.

Now to get a good night’s rest at the “Cummins Parking Lot RV Resort" ;-)

ReplyDeleteEnjoy the night and your westward journey. We stayed at the same facility several times when we had our Phaeton and were always pleased with their service! Enjoy your trip and be safe.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of Mui who looks deservedly happy. CONGRATS on the good news. Hope he's on fewer meds than David. Wish you were around the corner. Would love to talk to Mui about cardiac rehab. Envying you going west. Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to see you two heading our way. Mui looks quite happy, and ... different. Three mile walks and healthy eating perhaps? Congratulations on the great recuperation. Good as new!
ReplyDeleteAnd considerable weight loss in the past three months.
DeleteAnd considerable weight loss in the past three months. Combined with the others for a new Mui.
ReplyDeleteYay, great news! We chose to stay in our hometown in Oregon for the full three-months of cardiac rehab, too. It was worth it. We've been able to resume our hiking/biking/traveling adventures with no limitations. Mui looks great! And your salad with salmon looks exactly like the kind of meals we eat. Wishing you safe and happy travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Being able to do the things we love outdoors without restrictions was our goal and we’re happy to have achieved that.
DeleteSo good to see you two back on the road and Mui doing so well:) Think of all the new clothes you can buy with the new diet and weight lose!! Exciting! Enjoy being back out on the road!
