Will We Stick to the Plan?

A couple of weeks ago, we requested a route plan (what AAA would call a “TripTik”) from Coach-Net for our upcoming trip to bring the Phaeton home.  We received the plan (and much, much more) today.  We already had an idea of what we thought would be a good route.  Coach-Net seems to agree with us.

2,811.5 miles … 5 days and 21 minutes … 12 States
that’s the plan.  What will be the actual?

Is it an ideal plan?  No, it calls for long days of driving with little time to do anything else.  With a limited number of days to dedicate to this trip, we have no choice but to take the most direct route to cover 2,800+ miles [4,480+ km] in less than a week.

Phaeton Journeys that follow interesting side roads with plenty of sightseeing opportunities will just have to wait until another time.  In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see how well we follow this plan!

Blast from the Past: Memorial Weekend ‘83

Lest you think that we’ve got no prior RV’ing experience …

Mui received his first active duty assignment in March 1983.  His orders took us to Hill Air Force Base, Utah.  As spring turned to summer, the wide open expanses of the state were begging to be explored.  We decided to try our hand at camping, but we didn’t want to rough it in a tent.  So, we rented a trailer from the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) facility on base and headed to Bear Lake.

Believe me when I say that “Bare” Lake would have been a more appropriate name.  I couldn’t tell you which of the campgrounds we ended up at (it was way too long ago), but there was absolutely nothing there.  And I mean nothing; not even a tree to provide shade.

Oh well … we enjoyed our first RV travel experience nonetheless.

Perhaps we’ll give Bear Lake another chance when Phaeton Journeys eventually finds its way to Utah.
