Meet the Toad

Toad or dinghy … no matter the nickname, the vehicle we plan to tow on our Phaeton Journeys is a 2006 Honda CR-V.

We have no immediate plans for towing a vehicle … need to get used to the 40-foot [~12 m] length of the coach first.  That said, since we wanted to use our Toyota Camry as a trade-in, it seemed like a good idea to buy the toad now before we added to the 150,000+ miles [240,000+ km] the car already had on the odometer.

With only 36,000 miles [57,600 km] on the “gently used” CR-V, it’s a good buy and Mui gets to tool around town in a newer car until the CR-V is pressed into toad duty.  And hey … the color coordinates with the Phaeton!  (Purely luck of the draw, I might add.)

Our One-Bedroom Condo on Wheels

Wednesday, 19 May 2010

Some will look at this 40-foot (~12m) Allegro Phaeton and see a toy — a really big, fancy toy.  We look at it and see our retirement home — a one-bedroom condo on wheels.

Welcome to a Virtual Tour of our One-Bedroom Condo on Wheels.

The beauty of this 2009 Phaeton is that the former owners have already optioned some of the things that were on our wish list.

Mui completed the purchase of the “gently and lovingly used” coach in Portland, Oregon just a few hours ago.  I’m going to have to wait until July to see it in person; that’s when we’ll be flying to Portland to bring the Phaeton here.

For now, the Phaeton is parked in a storage facility in Portland.

Although we’ve taken the first step towards realizing our dream of touring the US and Canada by motorhome, we still have a few years to go before we can retire and go on the road full-time.  In the meantime, stay tuned for our weekend adventures aboard the “condo on wheels” coming to a blog near you.
