From Land to Space to Sea: Three Weeks in Review

When we left Galveston Island State Park on the 9th, we anticipated being in Dickinson, a city within Houston, for two weeks.

Wait a minute … I take that back.  We planned to be in Dickinson one week, and leaving the motorhome behind at the campground while we did a Caribbean cruise out of the Port of Houston during the second week.

That’s not how things turned out, however.  We ended up extending our Dickinson stay another week by stealing time away from the stop we planned in San Antonio.  Why?  That’s part of the story I will cover in this blog post to catch up with the present day.

Galveston: Week in Review

Our first week after leaving Port A for our winter Phaeton travels flew by in the blink of an eye.  Before we move on to our next stop tomorrow, I want to share what we did in Galveston.  It will be a long post, so don’t say you weren’t warned.

Our plan was to leave GWRVR on January 2.  The forecast put forth by the weather gurus suggested that was not a good idea, so we delayed our departure by a day, arriving at Galveston Island State Park (GISP) after a smooth drive on the 3rd instead.  After several gray and gloomy days in a row, it sure felt good to find ourselves in a place with sunshine and blue skies.

More (Better) Storage … Always a Good Thing

I try very hard not to add more stuff to what we’re already toting around in the coach.  Why, then, would I want more storage?  Well, as many of you know, the center part of the closet where the sliding doors overlap is very difficult to get into.  Simply put — I was tired of having to pull everything out to get in there when I needed something and wanted some accessible storage.

White Christmas ... Port A Style

Nope, it wasn’t snow that made our Christmas white … it was fog!

The fog, which wrapped us in a warm ... if damp ... cocoon yesterday evening, was supposed to burn off by noon.  There were occasional signs that the forecast might come true.  In the end, though, it was to no avail, and we continued to be enveloped by the thick mist.  The sun lost the battle today. 

This is what it looks like on the beach when we go for our walk this afternoon.

It’s only slightly better looking back towards the GWRVR beach access …
You’ll have to take my word that we’re not that far from it.  As for that black
spot on the photo … that’s not a spot, it’s a kite that the group is flying.

Oh well; can’t complain.  We’re at the beach after all, and we’re not having to shovel any snow ;-)
