This and That … Before We Leave Port Aransas

Sunday, 18 May
Gulf Waters RV Resort — Port Aransas, Texas
Temps: LO 71F (22C) / Hi 80F (27C)

Sheesh!  We’re past the halfway mark for May already. Not only have the Z’s left GWRVR to return to their pagoda, but it’s almost time for us to finally get the coach back on the road … if only for a day!

As promised … here’s Duke!  I have to thank MBZ for sending me
the photos as I never did get around to taking pictures of my own.

Lunch with the Z’s @ Snoopy’s Pier in Corpus Christi.
Here’s to meeting up in the Fall!

We haven’t been doing much since I last posted.  At the time, I was too busy having fun to write a real post.  Now, I’m too busy enjoying the fabulous weather we’ve been having … relaxing on the pad; reading; writing posts for my non-Phaeton blog; and just drifting off, mesmerized by the reflections.  Oh, and somewhere in there, I started getting ready to fly off to Turkey … that date is coming up fast.

So, this is going to be a mish-mash of photos to bring the blog current.

Who’s the hooded woman behind the hibiscus?  Why, it’s me working on my blog, of course.
Love how much privacy the hibiscus hedges provide our patio.

Maybe we should name the pond that fronts our site Mirror Lake.

Sunrise from our pad on a calm May morning.

Dinner @ Snoopy's Pier - Corpus Christi.30 April 2014

A tranquil sunset @ Snoopy’s Pier, which …

… we share with a loquacious laughing gull.

Speaking of birds and bees lovebugs …

We welcome visits from this mourning dove, which likes to perch on the shed’s roof, but …

… not so much the lovebugs, which are appropriately nicknamed …
honeymoon fly, kissing bug, or double-headed bug.  During and after
mating, adult pairs remain coupled, even in flight, for up to several days.

At least they are not swarming … like we experienced in Siesta Key, Florida.

In other news from near and around GWRVR …

A brush fire on the other side of TX361.  The fire department had it out in no time.
even though the fire was small, my heart still went pitter-patter when I noticed it.

Piles and piles of sargassum (gulfweed) line the Port Aransas Beach.
this seaweed apparently comes ashore here every spring.  I’m told that the quantities
seen this year are far above the norms.  Eventually, the seaweed will disappear from
the water, and the city will scoop up the piles and dump them behind the sand dunes.
In the meantime the usual suspects — shorebirds — are having a feeding frenzy.

For those of you who were waiting for the boardwalk to be completed to book at GWRVR …
it’s done!  The brand-spanking new boardwalk is now open for business!

And on that note … I’ll put a period at the end of this blog post ;-)

We’ll be leaving for Houston on Tuesday.  We have a lot to keep us busy while we’re there, but I will try to get one more post up before we wing our way to Turkey.

    1. Forgot to explain, the "pagoda" referenced by Erin originates from the brilliant Donald Fagen's "Morph the Cat" album. We like to think we live in the "Great Pagoda of Funn" ;))
