Bird on a Wire … Sort of

Keeping busy … no time to write a real post.

Unlike all the colorful birdies that are flitting about GWRVR, this gray bird has been doffing his cap and actually sticking around for a while when he comes by to visit us.  He especially likes the rope border at the front of our lot.

Gray Catbird

  1. I never met a gray catbird till now. They look rather sweet. Curious how they got the name, but who knows how anything gets named. My bird book is home in Rocky Point so I will have to think about it later. great shot!

  2. if you believe the internet... they say that the call which sounds like a cat mewing is responsible for the name. However, I've also observed that when a cat is around, the catbird will perch above the cat and call repeatedly and loudly (mew, mew, mew). Often other catbirds will answer with the same call.

  3. Given the relative sizes, it looks like a bird on a hawser:)

  4. Yup, we have catbirds all the time and they definitely sound like a whining kitty. Great picture of him.
