Sometimes you decide to stay home for one reason — in this instance, to relax and catch up on “living life on the road” type of stuff.  But today it turns out to be good for an entirely different reason that we decide to spend the day at home.

We woke up to a leak under the sink this morning.  Not sure when the leak started, but a plastic tub near the back of the cabinet was full to overflowing, soaking the carpet under it.  Mui noticed the problem when he went to dump the grinds from his morning coffee in the trash bin we keep in the cabinet!!!  Apparently, the plastic coupler that connects the UV filter unit to the water intake hose had failed.  Whew!  Easy fix.

Mui hopped in the car, drove to the nearby Home Depot to pick up the part he needed, replaced the failing coupler — et voilà … water back on; no leaks.

A replacement coupler solves the leak problem.

The rest of the day we did what we initially planned to do — relax … and do some chores … and process some photos and write a few blog posts (me) … and make kızarmış kuru köfte with parmak patates on the side (Mui).  What’s that you say?  It’s deep fried Turkish meat patties and French fries.

Mui cooking in his makeshift outdoor kitchen.

Kuru Köfte and Parmak Patates — yummm!

What makes these Turkish meatballs so great is that the outer shell is nice and crisp, and yet inside the meat is nice and soft.  They can be eaten hot or cold — well, at room temperature anyway.  I remember them as being a staple of many-a childhood picnics.  I provided a link to a recipe in the paragraph above the photos; you can use lamb or beef, or a combination.  Mui used ground bison meat.

The ketchup is for the fries; the yogurt for the köfte — although I must
say the fries taste quite yummy when dipped in yogurt.

And now to enjoy the fruits of Mui’s “labor of love.”

Yes, eagle-eyed readers, we are enjoying some Texas beer with our Turkish food.

After slaving over the stove, Mui gets to enjoy the fruits of his labor.

It’s so seldom that we have fried food that we feel not one whit of guilt for enjoying today’s meal.
