Gulf Waters RV Resort — Port Aransas, Texas
Temps: Hi 82F (28C) / LO 64F (18C)
Woke up to wonderful fall temperatures this morning — I even needed a light sweater when we first set out for our morning beach walk.
But that wasn’t the only thing we woke up to — damselflies and dragonflies have invaded the pond that fronts our site. They’re here by the hundreds, if not the thousands. The marshy rim around the pond apparently makes a good ‘love nest’ this time of the year.
Those that have already formed a couple-bond are buzzing about in pairs; the rest are chasing each other in their quest for mates. For the first time, I’m close enough to the damselflies to see the ‘heart’ they form when they are mating — so cute.
Of course, all that action deserves a short video clip. I tried to get the big picture with hundreds of these critters around the pond's rim, but they are too small to make out — no pun intended ;-)
And that’s the latest news from Gulf Waters!
Another wonder of nature. Thank goodness it's not skeeters! ;c)
ReplyDeleteThis must be the year for those damselflies to get 'caught' in the act!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Their color is just so bright, almost electric. We saw the hearts at the Wild life Refuge in Minnesota with the Bird Lady of Blogland. I'll never forget it - either one of them.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...I see the heart. How amazing. Doesn't watching nature make the best movies!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Love the electric blue:)
ReplyDeleteWow, what an amazing exciting nature event! Too bad they may no longer be there in December.
ReplyDeleteThey're already gone, I'm afraid. In fact, they moved out en masse by the end of the next day.
DeleteOh how neat!
ReplyDeleteOdonata is a cool Order of creature.
