Having Fun with Friends

Gulf Waters RV Resort  — Port Aransas, Texas
Temps: Hi 83F (28C) / LO 77F (25C)

We opened the Phaeton door this morning … to a gorgeous sunrise.

I grabbed the camera and stepped outside … and promptly lost sight of the red sky?  Oh yeah; I was now several steps down from where I had been standing in the cockpit and the trees and bushes were hiding the sunrise from view.

So, back in I went, and from a precarious position from the edge of the stairwell managed to get one single shot of the beautiful start to our day.  Who cares if it was sprinkling rain … the wet stuff was over in a matter of minutes, leaving us with a gorgeous day to enjoy.

The sunrise wasn’t the only wonderful thing about the morning.  The temperature was great, too.  In fact, we’ve been enjoying some cooler temps these past few days.  Add the breeze into the mix, and we’ve been able to have lunch with friends on our patio.  And the early evening hours have been heaven.  Could fall finally be coming?  That would be grand!

Notice the short tail feathers on this grackle?  seems it is molting season
and those beautiful long feathers are gone on both the females and the males.

We’ve been busy since returning from our weekend trip to San Antonio just over two weeks ago.  I’m continuing to polish travel plans; and I’m posting about our North Pole Adventure on the Two to Travel blog.  Mui’s been taking care of some maintenance work here and there around the coach — there’s always some little thing that needs attention.

What’s Mui up to now?  He’s replacing the cracked housing for the awning motor.

Several weeks ago, the fan motor for our front A/C went out.  Dale (from Southern Style RV Service) came to the rescue.  With a nudge, he got the fan moving, and by keeping the internal fan control in the “on” position instead of “auto,” we were able to continue to use the A/C until a replacement motor could be installed — that was last week.  No photos of the work as it was all done on the roof.

We’ve also been busy adding some hardscaping and landscaping to site 408.  The ‘professional’ part of the project — read that as the part that we paid to have done — is almost over.  Mui now wants to do a few things himself.  So, before and after photos will have to wait a bit longer.

Fishing Buddies — a great blue heron and a snowy egret.

You want to see my yellow shoes?

In the meantime, our East Texan friends — Mary and Tony (aka MBZ and TZ) — arrived last week for a short stay.  You might recall that they also bought a site here at Gulf Waters at the same time we bought our pad.  We get to keep company with them for a few weeks.  Unlike this past spring, however, we are having to enjoy our time with them without Duke, their fur-kid.  Duke, unfortunately, passed away not long after they returned home in April.  RIP, Duke — you are missed.

We’ve had several meals with the Zs at our site — this week it will be their turn to feed us ;-)  And if the weather cooperates, we just might do some sightseeing, too.  Stay tuned.

I’ll end with a few pictures from yesterday’s fun in the surf on the beach here at GWRVR.  It was a lovely, quiet hour or so … enjoying the tide coming in; the birds feeding and flying about.  Even saw a skimmer doing its thing, flying barely above the water with its beak open.  No photos … didn’t even try since all I had was a P&S camera with me.  But it was great seeing this behavior, which was a first for Mui and me.

Mui walks out to join his surf buddy!

Soaked but happy!

We stayed on the beach until the sun started to set, tinting the beachscape in pinks and mauves.  I suppose I could have turned around to take a photo of the sunset, but I thought I’d take a “the end” photo instead.  Credit where it’s due — it was Mary’s idea to take this photo … but note that she made me do the work ;-)

“The End!”

Hilarious that we have the same beach chairs — we bought ours from the
Costco in Fairfax, Virginia; they bought their chairs from the Costco in Houston, Texas.

Expect to have more fun in the days ahead!

  1. The single shot you got is gorgeous!
So sorry to read about Duke. Any one that has a pet or had a pet knows what a huge part of every day living their pet played a part in.
HAHAHA...I guess great minds think a like. Cute.

  2. Love your sunrise photo! I think they are the best because it always seems so much quieter and peaceful in the dawn rather than at dusk.

  4. Just love your pictures especially the first and last ones but the thing that is overwhelming me is that Duke died. I had no idea. I didn't think he was old but then I never knew him personally just always always wanted to meet him. I'm so sad please tell them for me.

  5. Looks like the weather is changing for the better, we're enjoying the fall color as we count down the last handful of days.

  6. Thanks to everyone for the condolences. We've been zombies all summer. The hole in our hearts that Duke left behind is so vast, it's doubtful we can ever fill the chasm, but hanging with the E's is a huge step toward building a bridge to a new phase of our lives. We'll miss him forever.

  7. Great minds (ends?) think alike. Good thing there is always something to tinker with on an RV or Mui would go crazy with nothing to do! :cD
