Isaac Creek COE Campground — Franklin, Alabama
Temps: Lo 37F / Hi 64F (3C / 18C)
Three days since I last posted … peaceful … quiet … wonderfully relaxing.
Days spent planning for our fall “vacation” from the motorhome.
Days spent watching the birds that perch on the tree at the front of our site.
Days spent watching the waters of Lake Claiborne gently — yet inexorably — passing by our campsite to the dam at the far end. The water is like Mother Nature’s conveyor belt, taking the mist rising from the lake with it. I took a photo (above) that captures the mood, but Mui’s short video does a better job of showing the movement.

8-seconds of moving mist.
Our days have been filled with sunshine, but a brisk breeze from the northwest has kept the temperatures chilled. Regardless, except for Wednesday, when the wind was exceptionally strong, we’ve been able to sit in the screen shelter for several hours in the late afternoon. At other times, we enjoy the scenery from the cockpit … which, Mui has taken to referring as our “Florida Room.”
Looking right from our site, the fog is clearing; but to our left, the dam is still veiled.
(Wednesday Morning — 13 March 2013)
Our poor shelter is all bent out of shape by the brisk breeze;
but additional tie-downs keep it from taking flight.
Haven’t done much otherwise … except for walks around the campground, or to the dam and back; and a couple of trike rides to add variety. Here are some scenes from the sites overlooking Isaac Creek in the back loop. Don’t worry, I didn’t walk through anyone’s site to get the pictures — unlike some of the new campers at the waterfront sites who think nothing of crossing through our site (sorry; pet peeve of mine).
Left: Some of the creek-side sites have small shared-docks; especially popular with boaters.
Right: A double the pleasure scene on peaceful Isaac Creek.
A couple of fishermen head out towards the lake to try their luck …
… while we relax at one of the gazebos in the back loop.
Just outside the entrance to the campground is a picnic shelter and a playground we walk through when we do our lakeshore walks to the Claiborne Lock and Dam. We were in a playful mood when we passed through on Wednesday.
Might that be Prince Charming? …
… only one way to find out ;-)
This beautiful Eastern Bluebird likes to perch on the tree at the front of our site;
I have to be content with photographing it through the windshield, however,
as it flies off at the slightest sound and movement.
Oh, and we did a bit of stargazing Tuesday evening and spied the comet PANSTARRS in the western sky. Thanks for the directions, MBZ. The comet was too far for me to attempt a photo, but what we saw through our binoculars was almost an exact duplicate of the picture below, which I borrowed from the web.
Except for the antenna and the power poles, this was our view of PANSTARR.

Knowing that we will be out sightseeing quite a bit when we reach New Orleans next week, we plan to continue to enjoy just chilling here at Isaac Creek.
ahhhh....so incredibly peaceful. Your photos of the mist were wonderful, as was the video. That big class A cockpit with a view is one small thing that I miss with our Dynamax 26 footer, we don't get that expansive view when parked. Sigh. I love the idea of having a mobile Florida Room. Hope you get some warmer weather soon, but the cooler temps seems to have contributed to the relaxing mode it seems. take care
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a pet peeve...I think it should be pain-old curtsy!
ReplyDeleteBefore I read the caption of the last photo, I said....I saw that same picture on TV. WOW...I can't believe Erin was the one who caught that site. Darn....Your photos are so beautiful, you could have been the one to submit that photo.
I would say you two are living the Tiffin theme...Roughing It Smoothly.
So, where are you going on your "vacation"?
ReplyDeleteIceland and Turkey are involved in our plans ... the rest, no one guessed from my earlier hints, so I am keeping the big reveal for later ;-)))
DeleteTam "emeklilik günleri" olmuş...Allah içinize sindirsin.
ReplyDeleteHa bu arada, kurbağanın akibeti ne oldu?
Translation of Sis's comment: "Perfect retirement days...enjoy. By the way, what was the fate of the frog?"
DeleteMy reply to the question .......
Alas ... don't believe the stories about a frog turning into a prince; they are all lies ;-))))))))))
enjoy the view from the 'florida room'! sure sounds like the two of you know how to do this RV thing up right!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had time to just relax and enjoy your beautiful surroundings. Outstanding photos. Love all the reflections!
ReplyDeleteJohn can't stand how rude and bold so many people are by cutting through campsites. I would feel so uncomfortable walking right along someone's rig. We are with our on this topic!
Glad to see you kids have slowed down for a change. BTW, did Mui get jealous with you kissing that frog and hoping it turned into a prince??? :cO
ReplyDeleteNo results picture:( Do you have a Prince in the coach now or did you type this with web fingers:)
ReplyDeleteQuite familiar with downward dog, scorpion pose, cat stretch, cobra pose… but this is the first time I've seen forward frog.
ReplyDeleteThe shelter looks inebriated. So does the woman. Hiccup!
This looks like a beautiful place to relax and rest up for your vacation. :-))
ReplyDeleteYour reflection pictures are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour post about COE enticed us to check out one on our way up to Alabama. Isaac Creek is a out of our way so we chose Gunter Hill.
-MonaLiza
We would have stayed at Gunter Hill, but it was too close to where we were at Maxwell AFB and we needed to move south to cut the drive to NOLA into two segments ... hence Isaac Creek for us. We did check out Gunter Hill and liked what we saw, so hopefully someday we'll find ourselves camped there.
DeleteThat looks like a beautiful campground and such a big site. Too bad you have folks who don't respect boundaries. It must be nice to just relax and enjoy the views from the cockpit. I would never have guessed the bluebird shot was through the glass. Mui must keep those windows clean!!
ReplyDeleteThat must be some kind of mutant frog. Certainly the biggest I ever saw. I'm glad he didn't change into Prince Charming. What would you do with two of them? :-D
