Blogger Commenting: Could This Be the Answer?

Tuesday, 31 May

We've all been having intermittent problems commenting on posts. Sue (from The MoHo and Other Traveling Tales) and I may have hit upon the potential solution.

Earlier today, I went into Blogger to change my comment settings from embedded to pop-up window. Coincidentally, I received a note from Sue that she'd been able to comment on some of the other blogs, but not on mine because the embedded comment box was not editable. When I mentioned that I had made changes to my settings, she did a couple of tests for me. Success! She was able to comment using both Chrome and IE.

Now, neither one of us saying that this is the answer, but perhaps it is ... and only time and more commenting activity will tell.

If you'd like to check your Blogger comment settings and are not sure what you need to do ...

In your dashboard:
  1. go to the Settings tab
  2. click the Comments tab
  3. scroll down to Comment Form Placement to see which radio button is selected
  4. select the "pop-up window" button
  5. scroll to the end of the page and save your settings
  6. ask someone to send you a test comment (be happy to oblige)
Hopefully this is the answer to our frustrations ... and if it isn't … well I guess a lack of comments on this post will tell the story.

  1. I seem to be one of the few that hasn't had this issue (at least I don't think so). As a cautionary measure I followed Rick's advice and 'dumped my cookies', or whatever that was called. Today's comment was in a pop up window.

  2. Commenting away here, using IE9. I am still signed in when I attempt to comment, but there are times when for some reason I am not, so the problem may be a bit deeper, but this is surely a first step. When I get signed out of blogger repeatedly, that makes me a bit crazy. so far, not today, which is a GOOD thing. thanks for the instructions, E.

  4. I use Firefox, and normally have no problems with making comments. They open in a separate window, in almost all cases that I can remember. Have not experienced the problems that some have, I guess.

I use google reader and go from there directly to the blog that I want to read and comment on. That may be different than going from my Blogger Dashboard, which I seldom use.
