Sunrise on Our AnniversaryThirty-four years.  That’s how long Mui and I have been married.  Today we took a step into year 35 — and we did so with the dawning of a beautiful day on the beach at GWRVR.

When we got married in İzmir, Turkey in 1981, 26 November happened to fall on Thanksgiving.  Every so many years, the calendar brings us back to this special holiday — perfect for giving thanks for all we have … all we are able to do … times two.

Sunrise on Our Anniversary

Beginning Year 35 with a beautiful sunrise.

What made today extra special was that we got to celebrate it with friends here at GWRVR.  We were asked to bring dessert to the Thanksgiving dinner our friends were hosting at their pad.  So, Mui had the idea to surprise everyone with an anniversary cake.  Laughter and camaraderie … the crowning touch on our day.

Happy Anniversary

Our dessert contribution to Thanksgiving dinner — surprise!

Happy Anniversary to us … and here’s to many, many more happy returns.

  3. Sherry ... it was a "professional" cake ... without an oven in the coach, we opted to order the cake from a local bakery. It was indeed quite tasty.

  4. Happy Anniversary, Erin and Mui:) Wishing you many, many more wonderful years together:) The cake looks like German Chocolate Cake!? You don't have an oven!? Not even a convection oven?

  5. Pam … should have said a real oven. The microwave/convection oven is really too small for baking a sheet cake. And yes; the cake was German chocolate.

  6. Yes, indeedy -- happy anniversary! It's good to be either born on or have your anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. I was born on Thanksgiving Day and, like you say, every few years, my birthday falls on turkey day. Here's hoping our next year is super great and terrific! (boo hoo, I didn't get cake)

  14. You two are an example of what I believe marriage should be. Best of friends, always loving and respectful of each other, sharing life together in the best way possible with great travels and lots of adventure. Each of you appreciating the other's accomplishments and gifts. Mui you are such a great cook, and Erin, no one I know can live up to your photography and willingness to keep track of the details of life and planning. What a pair! I love having people like you two in my life. Congratulations on the 34th anniversary.
