Gulf Waters RV Park — Port Aransas, Texas
Temps: Hi 83F (28C) / Lo 76F (24C)
Dreary, drab, windy — gusting up to 25 knots (40 mph/65 kph) at times. And some drizzly rain. That about describes the weather this past week. So what did we do? We took care of some chores we had postponed from April — it was more fun to socialize with our friends than to take care of boring stuff like weeding out stuff from the closet ;-) Mui worked on a home improvement project over the weekend — I’ll write about … or at least show some pics … when it’s completed.
This was also a good time to plan our summer roadtrip. The northbound leg to Colorado is completed — hope it stops snowing by then ;-) I’ve given myself a few days off to write a few more catch-up posts for last December’s South America cruise before I work on the southbound leg that will return the Phaeton to Houston at the end of August.
the camera stayed dormant last week, so I’ll share some Magellanic Penguins from Seno Otway, Punta Arenas — Chile (Dec 2014).
I love reading blogs written by people with shared interests — in this case RV’ing. I enjoy reading about their “trips” … how they planned (or “un”planned) it; the resources they used; the places they visited and the things they did; the campgrounds — using the term loosely — they stayed in. Not only is it fun to read about the “trip,” but the information is useful when we want to plan a similar “trip.”
One might say that for full-timers like us, a “trip” is what we do all year long. Perhaps because we have an RV home base, I have a different definition of a “trip.” What we do all year long, whether the wheels are rolling or not — is living life. A “trip,” on the other hand, is a specific portion of our time on the road. A “trip” is where we have a set destination and stay in one place for a while, hub-and-spoking from there to see the sights. A “trip” is something we deliberately plan — something like driving up to Alaska … which we will do someday.
In the midst of planning our summer “trip,” I realized that it might be easier to refer back to specific trips from an index someday. So, I decided to put up a static page and display it next to the “Home” tab above. If others find the index useful in their “trip” research as well — that would be a bonus.
I know our list of “trips” is pitiful. That’s partly because of the way I “define” a trip. And partly because so much of our time since retiring has been spent “living life” in the motorhome while we focus on some of the overseas trips that we’ve postponed from when we were in the workforce. But that will change over time. In fact, if all goes as planned, I’ll be adding two more trips to the index this summer alone!
As the Phaeton’s wheels roll more and more, the list of trips in the index will grow!
Happy travels everyone!
UPDATE: I've removed the trip index as it wasn't easy to come up with a proper list.
I find it hard to believe that a little snow in Colorado will slow you two world travelers on your summer excursion! :cD
ReplyDeleteA little snow won't; but two feet of it would ;-) It sure has been an odd spring.
DeleteOur friends are in Utah and getting hit with snow. Not sure you can ever count of the high places in CO to be snow free.
ReplyDeleteI like your trips idea. Wish I could use it but I haven't even gotten around to the work of putting any tabs up on my blog. I think about doing it a lot though. LOL Our "trips" tend to be entire seasons long and we do a lot of wandering.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I thought some penguins had stowed away in your luggage.
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
