Fort Pickens Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore (GINS), Florida
Temps: Lo 44F / Hi 54F (7C / 12C)
Today was forecasted to be mostly sunny; with rain overnight. We did see the sun, but it didn’t stick around. It was out just long enough for me to go for a walk on one of the trails that can be accessed from the campground; and for Mui to go out for a trike ride. And then the clouds moved in and stayed put. So we stayed put, too. I mean what’s the hurry right? We’re not on vacation and we can take our time exploring all that the area has to offer. Of course, that’s easy to say, but difficult to do for two Type A personalities. We’re trying though; and making progress in the right direction (slow though it might be).
I clicked the shutter only once today; and that was to capture the sunrise from our site.
Seeing as how we’re practicing economizing our water resources here, I thought I’d post about a mod we made awhile back — replacing the shower head with an Oxygenics Body Spa Handheld Shower Kit.
The title of the post is a bit of an exaggeration as we can’t go completely green just by changing out the shower head, but every step towards conserving natural resources is a step in the right direction.
The shower head and all the accoutrements that go with it.
According to the literature, the shower head is designed to boost water pressure while saving up to 70% in water and energy consumption. Works for us; we have noticed a definite increase in the strength of the shower spray. The head is guaranteed “no clog” — so far haven’t had any problems. And the makers promise that it will install in minutes — that was Mui’s experience … even with the addition of a shut-off valve.
Instead of using the lever to turn the water on and off, pressing the button on
the shut-off valve temporarily stops the water supply while showering.
Not only does this conserve water, but it maintains the water temperature.
The shut-off valve is mounted on the bottom of the shower head (the piece in Mui’s left hand),
which is then screwed onto the water hose.
The new shower head assembly with the shut-off valve in place …
… is reconnected to the water valve in the shower. And we have success!
We really like this shower head much better than the old one we had. So much so that when the condo management at our stix & brix offered to install the same shower head for free in every bathroom in the condo, we jumped at the offer.
yes. . .we agree with your consensus on the Oxygenics. . .liked it so much we took it with us from the fifth wheel to the motor home. . .
ReplyDeletewe had one in our travel trailer too..loved it..
ReplyDeleteI have to ask..what are the two plaques in one of the photos?..what do they say?
Sue, those are actually pot holders ... we rarely use them, but have kept them for the sentiment they express ...

We have read so much about the Oxygenics that we are thinking of replacing our shower head at home. We are going to remodel the bathroom and think this might be an improvement. Thanks for the heads up on the shower head.
ReplyDeleteOk I'm convinced. It's on my mod list. Better pressure and saves water now that's a win/win.
ReplyDeleteWe bought that same kit a few months ago but haven't installed it yet. The shut-off valve completes the picture for me so now we can get it done. We have shutoff valves in our showers at home and I like the way they work.
ReplyDeleteWe like ours too. It made rinsing the shampoo out of my long hair do-able. Makes short work of my now medium hair. Really like the addition of the shut off valve for ultra-conservation showers.
ReplyDeleteI've had two of them, they both fell apart right where the shower head connected to the hose. There is a little screw that holds things together and is put in place before the two halves of the head are glued together. The screw backed out and there is no way to retighten it short of cutting the shower head apart. After the second one fell apart I went back to a regular shower head.
ReplyDeleteIt did work good, I hope maybe in the couple of years since mine failed that they came up with a solution to that screw backing out.
We'll keep our fingers crossed that the manufacturing defect has been fixed ;-)
DeleteThis is exactly the same one we have and we love it! Haven't had the problem that Paul mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWe have installed this shower head in our Pheaton as well. Have not had any problems with it, and the water pressure is great! It does fall out of the shower head bracket during travel (it seems more "topheavy" than the OEM shower head), so I just have to remember to secure it for travel before we leave.....no more issues! :-)
ReplyDeleteOur shower caddy ... which we found at Goodwill for a ridiculous price ... has two hooks on the bottom. I think they are intended to hang washcloths and whatnot, but we hang the shower head on one of those hooks rather than keeping it in the bracket after we're done showering.
DeleteYou and Mui are both A+ in my estimation! Thanks for the demo on the install. We bought one of those awhile back, but due to my usual procrastinating nature, it still sits out in the back room, awaiting installation. Now, maybe I'll be motivated to follow Mui's lead and get 'er done! Thanks so much for sharing. You two are quickly learning how to enjoy your new retirement together! So nice to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the timely post on the shower head. We recently agreed to make this purchase and I forgot about the highly useful addition of the shut off valve. Bravo on letting go of the need to accomplish something everyday!
ReplyDeleteWe have the Oxygenics shower head, but not the shut off valve. where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteBought the shut-off valve from Home Depot; I imagine Lowe's would have it too.
