Mui's Turn to Take a Bow

Friday, 17 February

There’s this Homeland Security …

… as the t-shirt states.

And then there is the Department of Homeland Security, which Mui joined at the time of its inception on March 1, 2003.

During his nine years with DHS, he has served in various positions in the procurement organization.  His most recent role as Industry Ombudsman carries with it the responsibility for organizing an annual Industry Day, which has an attendance of over 2,700 — in person and online.

The event held on 26 January was the last one he’ll be putting together before he retires at the end of the year.  In announcing this to the industry attendees during the opening session, his boss also marked the occasion by presenting Mui with a pewter tray stamped with the DHS logo.  What makes the tray special is that the signature of his current boss, along with those of his former bosses, are etched on the back.

This was the first time someone took photos at the event … so, I’ll share a few here.  After all, it won’t be often — or perhaps ‘ever’ is a better word — that you’ll see Mui in a suit and tie once he retires ;-)

Scenes from Mui’s last Industry Day event.
The group shot is of Mui with his interns; the top right photo shows Mui joking around — he
likes to do that a lot — with Chris, the Deputy Under secretary for DHS.

The pewter tray; alas no good way of photographing the finely etched signatures on the back.

  1. Looking pretty spiffy in that suit. Had no idea you were part of Homeland Security. Like finding out Paul Dahl was in "protection". I even feel safer now.

  7. All in all, I think I like the picture of Mui in the T-shirt, on the deck of the ship. He's much more relaxed there. Glad to see him get some recognition for all his hard work. Congratulations! You guys are going to have to find a special place in the motorhome for both of your awards collections! That's really special and something to be very proud of. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Congratulations Mui! What a nice recognition of a job well done. You look pretty spiffy in the suit too, but much more relaxed in the t-shirt. There are many more of those days to come :)

  9. Aw shucks. Doesn't he clean up purdy.
All my business suits and pumps were donated to a dress for success charity; the pantyhose chopped up to make support-ties for tomato plants.
Whatever shall we do with all these men's suits and ties? Surely they'd make a nifty craft project. Collectively, we probably have thousands of ties. Entrance rugs perhaps?
