When I look at this cross stitch project, I almost always start singing the Twelve Days of Christmas …
On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
OK … OK, I know there are only two Swans a-Swimming in this piece, but what can I say — my mind has a mind of its own.
This was one of my earliest projects. It was also the one that took the longest to complete. Not because it was an overly difficult pattern, but because I got bored with the repetitive nature of the leaf trim. Finally, in 2009, I found the kit tucked into the corner of a drawer and decided to just get it over and done with. I buckled down and in less than a week I was taking the finished work to the local crafts store to get it framed.
The colors of this piece would actually work great in the kitchen/dining area of the condo, but alas there is no wall space big enough there. Since the rest of the walls are filled with other projects, this one has been wrapped and placed in storage for now.
Those little butterflies in the corner — they’re my addition to the pattern. Somehow a few small stains had developed on the fabric (probably from being stuck in a plastic bag with some colorful floss). It was either find a way to cover the spots, or toss out the completed project. I think they worked out nicely with the swans and lilies.
nice to add your own touch to a cross stitch picture!...my touches are usually boo boo's that I can't fix without ripping the whole piece apart!..
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful work. Very clever to add the butterflies where they were most needed!
ReplyDeleteWith all your travelling it is amazing that you have time to make such beautiful stitch work. or maybe there is some connection? :-)
ReplyDelete'm new to reading your blog. I decided to take a look at your crossstitch section and I saw your swans and had to laugh. Just last week I sent my sister, an advid crossstitcher that same pattern that I'd had in my sewing closet for a long time. I knew she'd get it done.I'm still working on a lighthouse kit I started over ten years ago! You do beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your blog and learning alot from it. Hopefully my husband and I will get to see this country too in the future. happy traveling.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting. I see you're from Alaska ... one of our favorite states -- if not the favorite. We've been there twice on vacation and hope to make the trek up there with our motorhome for an extended stay sometime before we get off the road.
